Mirrored Deception Blog Tour

This week I have the privilege of doing a guest post by the author of Mirrored Deception, Emma Leigh Reed!

Guest Post:
"Finally – Published

I started my writing career five years ago. When I decided I wanted to write a book I was totally clueless as to what the publishing world entailed. I started writing and then edited, and then thought my story was ready. What I didn’t know about the publishing world is that it is a slow moving pace. You submit and wait months, and then some more months before even possibly getting a request for maybe only a partial. Then the waiting begins again. In that waiting time, you wonder about the possibilities of being published, and the fear of being rejected. Then as that first rejection came in I learned another valuable lesson, something that I hadn’t envisioned as I stepped into world of attempting publication and that is to be thick-skinned.

I knew there would be criticism and rejection with the publishing world, but I never realized the extent to how some editors or agents would take their opinion to the brutally honest extreme. Am I glad I endured that? Absolutely. It was four short years for my first book to sell and I have never for a minute regretted entering the writing world and facing publication.

There is a lot you don’t know when you start this journey. However, if this is a dream of yours – to write – than do it and don’t let anyone tell you it is impossible. My advice is to be thick skinned. Take criticism in stride, use what you can and set aside the rest. Remember this is your story. Don’t change it based on one person’s opinion so it changes the whole outlook or voice, but be encouraged by those who are willing to criticize you and yet give you options to better yourself. Don’t be afraid to ask a seasoned writer for guidance or advice. Writing is a solitary career path so reach out to other writers for support.

Most of all, be true to your voice and let it flow over the pages."
